The Federal Government plans to create at least 20,000 jobs annually through the second phase of the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP), set to be launched on October 22, 2025, in Abuja.
Vice President Kashim Shettima will officially unveil NJFP 2.0 during the event, which will also host a high-level policy dialogue themed “From Skills to Jobs and Enterprises: Driving Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship in Key Economic Sectors.”
Ahead of the launch, Shettima inaugurated the Project Steering Committee, directing members to ensure inclusiveness and nationwide reach.
The NJFP, first introduced in August 2021, was designed to tackle youth unemployment by placing recent graduates in structured work placements to build experience and employability.
With €44 million in funding support from the European Union, the programme successfully placed over 14,000 young Nigerians in 12-month paid fellowships across public and private sectors, equipping them with practical skills and career readiness.
The new phase builds on that foundation, aligning with broader federal initiatives to reduce unemployment and strengthen the labor market.
Earlier in 2025, the government introduced the Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP), targeting 2.5 million jobs over two years through digital upskilling and reskilling.
It also launched the National Job Centre Project, a network of employability hubs to connect trained Nigerians with verified opportunities using digital job-matching and career advisory tools.
Additionally, in partnership with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), the government is offering free business name registration to 250,000 young entrepreneurs, injecting over N6 billion into the economy.
