The Federal Government has released a six-point implementation plan for the Nigeria First policy, aimed at promoting local production and strengthening economic growth.

President Bola Tinubu announced the plan at the 5th Adeola Odutola Lecture and the 53rd Annual General Meeting of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria in Lagos. He was represented by John Enoh, Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment.

Tinubu said the policy seeks to channel public funds, procurement, and partnerships toward locally-made goods that meet global standards while reducing production costs for manufacturers.

The six-point plan includes prioritising local content in government procurement, launching a quarterly compliance dashboard in early 2026, providing long-term financing for manufacturers, ensuring reliable energy supply for industrial clusters, strengthening skills and workplace safety, and improving logistics efficiency.

He added that the plan will move Nigeria from policy validation to phased implementation with transparent milestones.

According to data cited from the National Bureau of Statistics, the industrial sector grew by 7.45 percent while manufacturing increased by 1.6 percent, contributing 7.81 percent to GDP. Tinubu described the figures as progress but noted that more effort is required to achieve national goals.

He urged manufacturers to maintain quality standards, prioritise research and development, and support phased localisation of production inputs.

Francis Meshioye, President of MAN, expressed optimism that the policy, once fully implemented, would strengthen the manufacturing sector and improve citizens’ welfare.
