The Federal Government has launched a ₦10 million Excellence in Tax Reform Reporting Award to recognise journalists and digital influencers who demonstrate accuracy, balance, and impact in covering Nigeria’s ongoing tax reforms.
The initiative was announced on Tuesday via X by Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee. He said the award aims to promote constructive public discourse, counter misinformation, and elevate journalism that helps citizens understand and trust fiscal reforms.
According to Oyedele, the award is open to Nigerian journalists across print, broadcast, and online platforms, as well as digital influencers, bloggers, and podcasters. Entries must consist of published works between July 1 and December 31, 2025, and can be submitted in English, Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, or Yoruba.
“The award seeks to strengthen constructive public discourse, counter misinformation, and elevate journalism that explains reforms in ways citizens can trust and understand,” Oyedele stated.
The prize structure includes ₦10 million for the overall winner, ₦5 million for second place, ₦3 million for third place, and consolation prizes for the top 20 finalists. Submissions will be judged based on accuracy, balance, clarity, public engagement, and creativity.
Applications will open via the official portal fiscalreforms.ng by December 31, 2025.
Oyedele emphasised that the initiative aligns with the committee’s broader goals of simplifying Nigeria’s tax system by harmonising multiple levies into a more transparent and broad-based framework.
The award is part of ongoing efforts to build public trust in fiscal reforms and encourage media professionals to play a more active role in shaping informed conversations around tax policy.
