ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forcefully declared that the Federal Government will never surrender to the criminal intimidation of terrorists and bandits, promising that his administration is ramping up its tactical and economic interventions to ease the severe hardships confronting citizens.
The President’s message was delivered on Sunday, June 7, 2026, by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, during the National Inter-Denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja.
Okay News reports that the interfaith service serves as the Christian commemorative segment of a week-long lineup of national events organized by the state house to mark Nigeria’s 2026 Democracy Day anniversary. The event, themed “God of hope, actualise our dreams,” follows Friday’s special Juma’at prayers at the National Mosque and arrives amid heightened public discourse regarding rising inflation and ongoing regional security challenges.
Addressing a high-profile congregation that included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Senator Akume stated that the safe rescue of all citizens currently held in captivity remains an uncompromised national priority. “The government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation,” Akume declared, adding that the administration is actively pouring resources into the Armed Forces to preserve Nigeria’s territorial integrity and neutralize burgeoning terror networks.
Acknowledging the prevailing economic strains and displacements squeezing millions of households across the country, Akume maintained that the President is deeply sensitive to the public outcry and is prepared to “double his efforts” to deliver sustainable democratic dividends. Turning his focus to the early political maneuvering gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the SGF issued a stern warning against the weaponization of hate campaigns and ethnic division, appealing directly to the youth to guard their consciences against exploitation. “Do not rent out your conscience for money, drugs, political patronage or online applause. Your future is worth more than any politician’s temporary convenience,” he concluded, urging citizens to honor the pro-democracy sacrifices of June 12 heroes by building a more accountable, peaceful, and secure nation.
