The Federal Government has not yet started direct allocation of funds to Local Government Areas (LGAs) due to ongoing procedural requirements, according to the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).

okaynews.com reports that Hon. Odunayo Alegbere, Chairman of the ALGON Board of Trustees, explained that local governments have been instrumental in maintaining stability across the country. He emphasized that the delay in implementing direct allocations is tied to necessary administrative and legal processes that must be finalized before the system can take effect.

Alegbere also commented on the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu, stating that the move averted a potential civil war. He praised the President’s decisive action, noting that it helped to de-escalate tensions and restore order in the state.

“The emergency rule in Rivers State was a necessary step to prevent further chaos and ensure peace,” Alegbere said. “The Federal Government’s intervention has been crucial in maintaining national stability.”

ALGON reiterated its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen governance at the grassroots level. The association also called for patience as the processes for direct allocations to LGAs are finalized, assuring that the move will enhance transparency and efficiency in local government administration.
