NEW YORK, United States – FIFA will award the 2026 World Cup winners championship rings for the first time in the tournament’s history, adding an American sports-style tradition to the world’s biggest football competition.
Okay News reports that 30 personalised rings will be produced for members of the winning team, while a further 1,996 rings will be made available for sale to fans.
The new championship jewellery will be presented alongside the traditional World Cup trophy and gold medals. The initiative draws from American sports, where championship rings are commonly awarded to winners in competitions such as the NFL and NBA.
The announcement comes ahead of Sunday’s final between Spain and Argentina, who secured their places in the title decider after contrasting semifinal victories.
Argentina produced a dramatic late comeback to defeat England 2-1 in Atlanta on Wednesday. Anthony Gordon gave the Three Lions the lead in the 55th minute before Enzo Fernández equalised in the 85th minute and Lautaro Martínez completed the turnaround in stoppage time.
Defending champions Argentina will now attempt to retain the title when they face Spain in the final at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.
Spain booked their place in the final with a 2-0 victory over France in Tuesday’s semifinal at Dallas Stadium. Mikel Oyarzabal converted a 22nd-minute penalty before Pedro Porro doubled the lead after the break.
The final will mark Spain’s second World Cup final appearance and Argentina’s seventh. France and England will meet in the third-place playoff on Saturday.
