Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun In NYSC Certificate Forgery Scandal

Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun alledgely skipped the mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps Certificate (NYSC) and had instead bagged a fake exemption certificate, according to reports.

The NYSC is compulsory for Nigerians who graduate from universities or equivalent institutions at not more than 30 years.

It also works as requirement for job placement in the country’s private and public sectors.

However, a recent investigation by Premium Times revealed that Adeosun has an NYSC exemption certificate issued due to her age in 2009.

The minister was said to have graduated from the Polytechnic of East London in 1989 at 22 but did not take part in the mandatory scheme.

After years of working, both in Nigeria and the United Kingdom, Adeosun then allegedly got a fake NYSC exemption letter in 2009, seeing that she might need it.

The report has however alleged that the minister’s “certificate” was dated September 9, 2009, and reportedly signed by an ex-Director-General of the corps Yusuf Bomoi.

But Bomoi had in January, 2009, resigned from the NYSC and died September, 2017.

In addition, an official of the NYSC said the certificate is fake, describing it as an “Oluwole Certificate” (a place in Lagos, Nigeria with a knack for producing fake documents).

This is as an ex-staff of the corps said it does not issue exemption certificates to those who graduated before 30, a group which the minister falls into.
