The Governor of Adamawa State in Northeastern Nigeria, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has imposed a strict twenty-four hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area after a renewed outbreak of communal violence disrupted peace in the region. The directive is part of an emergency response aimed at preventing further casualties and restoring stability to the affected communities.

According to a formal statement issued on Monday and signed by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hussaini Hammangabdo, the Adamawa State Government urgently instructed all security agencies to undertake immediate deployment to the crisis zone. The statement indicated that the administration assessed the situation as severe enough to warrant decisive action designed to quell tensions before they spread to adjoining districts.

Okay News reports that the government emphasised that its priority is to safeguard residents while mobilising all relevant security formations to keep the unrest from escalating. Authorities also confirmed that the incident occurred on Sunday evening, prompting emergency consultations among top government officials and security stakeholders to coordinate a unified intervention.

The official statement reads, “The Adamawa State Government has imposed a twenty-four hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect following a renewed communal clash that broke out on Sunday evening. Signed by Hussaini Hammangabdo, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, security agencies have been directed to move into the area and restore peace and order without delay.”

In addition, the state government appealed to residents of Lamurde Local Government Area to remain calm, cooperate with operatives on the ground, and avoid any actions that could trigger further violence. The emergency curfew, according to officials, will remain in place until security assessments indicate that normal activities can safely resume.
