The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been bestowed with a distinguished traditional chieftaincy title by the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council. On Tuesday, during her official two-day working visit to Enugu State, she was conferred the title of ‘Ugosimba 1 of Enugu,’ a name that translates to “jewel” or “eagle from another kingdom.”

Igwe Ikechukwu Asadu, Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, explained that the title was awarded in recognition of Senator Tinubu’s enduring love for Enugu, her humanitarian efforts, and her unwavering commitment to the development of Nigeria. “You served three terms in the Senate and were honoured with the Commander of the Order of Niger. But beyond politics, we admire your compassion for the less privileged, your support for nurses and midwives, and your work in uplifting humanity,” he stated.

In her acceptance remarks, Senator Tinubu expressed heartfelt appreciation for the honour, describing Enugu State as a place of tranquility where she felt a profound sense of inner peace since her arrival. She emphasized that the title was not only a personal accolade but also a tribute to her husband, President Bola Tinubu, and their entire family. “This is a special honour that I will cherish forever. I love your state—it is calm and welcoming. As you have honoured me today, Enugu State will be remembered for good,” she said.

This recognition highlights the First Lady’s dedication to public service and her positive influence beyond the political arena, reinforcing her role as a humanitarian and advocate for social development.
