Abuja, Nigeria – Kayauta Yakubu, former National Woman Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has been formally received into the All Progressives Congress (APC). The official reception took place on Tuesday at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, where she was welcomed alongside her supporters and political associates.
She was received by the APC National Woman Leader, Dr Mary Alile-Idele, with the APC Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Adamu Danladi Ibrahim, also in attendance. Speaking on behalf of the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, Dr Alile-Idele described Yakubu’s defection as a return to a progressive platform, noting that the ruling party remains open to Nigerians willing to contribute to national development. She also praised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reforms in governance, infrastructure, empowerment programmes, and the student loan initiative under NELFUND.
Okay News reports that Yakubu said her decision to leave the ADC was based on her personal assessment of governance and development under the APC-led administration. The Kuje-born politician from Rubochi Ward in the Federal Capital Territory stated that she joined the APC voluntarily, stressing that no one influenced her move. She described her return as coming back home, recalling that she was part of the APC during its formation before leaving the party years ago.
Also speaking, the APC Chairman for Kuje Area Council, Alhaji Adamu Danladi Ibrahim, described Yakubu as a founding member with strong grassroots mobilization strength. He expressed confidence that her return would boost the party’s chances ahead of the forthcoming Area Council elections, adding that her experience and support base would help strengthen the APC at the local level.
