Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has revealed that God instructed him not to contest any election in 2027, Okay.ng reports.
Ortom made this disclosure on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by members of the G-14, a group of elders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from the 14 Tiv-speaking local government areas in Benue.
The former governor said he has no choice but to respect God’s wish, having learned from his defeat in the 2023 senatorial election.
Ortom admitted that he failed to seek divine guidance before joining the 2023 race, which led to his loss.
“I’m not contesting the 2027 election. I knew why I lost the election in 2023. I didn’t consult God. My people purchased the forms for me, and I accepted them without consulting God,” Ortom explained.
“God has revealed everything to me. He has asked me to wait for Him.”
Despite his decision not to contest in 2027, Ortom expressed confidence in the PDP’s determination to reclaim the Benue Government House in the next election cycle.
He emphasized his commitment to supporting the party’s interests above individual ambitions.
Ortom also reflected on the sacrifices he made while serving as governor, acknowledging that at times, he had to prioritize state matters over his family and friends.
While he initially intended to take a sabbatical after leaving office, the elders of the party objected to his plan.
