JUST IN! Former CJN, Justice Dahiru Musdapher Is Dead

Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Dahiru Musdapher is dead.

He died last night after a brief illness.

Dahiru Musdapher was born on 14 July 1942 at Babura in Babura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

For his primary and secondary education, he attended Babura Elementary School, 1950 – 1953, Birnin Kudu Middle School 1954 to 1956 and Rumfa College, Kano, 1957 to 1962. Between 1963 and 1964, he studied at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria before he proceeded to the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London where he studied from 1964 to 1967. During the same period, 1964 to 1967, he enrolled and studied at the Inns of Court School of Law and was called to the English Bar in 1967. He thereafter enrolled at the Nigerian Law School in 1967 and was called to the Nigerian Bar on 28 June 1968.

Following his call to the Nigerian Bar, Musdapher entered into active private legal practice from 1968 to 1976, before he was appointed the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kaduna State where he served from 1976 to 1978. In 1979, he was appointed as Judge of the High Court of Kano State, and served as the Chief Judge from 1979 to 1985. He was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 1985 and rose to become a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on 6 January 2003.

In 2011, Musdapher was appointed the Chief Justice of Nigeria. He retired from the bench on 14 July 2012.
