KUDAN, KADUNA STATE, NIGERIA – Former Kaduna State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Right Honourable Isa Mohammed Ashiru, has officially crossed over to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), formally registering at his ward in Kudan Local Government Area on Sunday.
Okay News gathered that the two-term governorship candidate framed his defection as a pivotal step ahead of the next general elections.
Announcing the move on his platforms, Ashiru stated: “This is not just a party switch — it is a commitment to real change, good governance, and putting the people first. Together, we will build a better Kaduna and a greater Nigeria.” Declaring that “The journey to 2027 begins now!” alongside the party’s #AriseAndShine slogan, Ashiru’s registration fulfills an announcement he made earlier in the week regarding his political future.
The formal transition comes just over a week after he officially resigned from the PDP on March 27. In his resignation letter, Ashiru cited “persistent internal leadership crisis, conflicts, rancor and divisions” as the primary drivers behind his departure, noting that the turbulent state of the party had made it “increasingly difficult” for him to continue his active participation.
The defection of the high-profile politician represents a notable shift in Kaduna State’s political landscape, signaling a significant boost for the ADC as the party continues to position itself as a major opposition force ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
