Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation and ex-governor of Rivers State, has voiced his readiness to join an opposition coalition aimed at defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. Speaking to Journalists, Amaechi cited worsening economic conditions and rising hunger as key reasons for his position.

Though a senior member of the ruling APC, Amaechi insisted that party loyalty does not require unconditional support. “If the government is failing the country, you don’t just go along because you’re in the same party. You know that’s not right,” he stated.

Amaechi recounted a disturbing incident where he found a corpse by the roadside, attributing such tragedies to food insecurity. “People are dying. People are starving. I myself am feeling the effects of hunger,” he said.

He revealed ongoing discussions with other concerned Nigerians to form a united front for change, echoing similar moves by opposition leaders Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.

On security, Amaechi linked Boko Haram insurgency and banditry to economic desperation. “Many of those involved are doing it out of desperation and hunger,” he noted.

He also dismissed claims that his political influence has waned, challenging critics to visit Rivers State. “Go to Port Harcourt and ask around—from the airport, you’ll see for yourself,” he said.
