Prof. Jibrin Aminu, a distinguished former Minister of Petroleum and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s political and intellectual circles, has died at the age of 85. He passed away on Thursday at his residence in Abuja, marking the end of a remarkable life dedicated to public service and national development.

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, announced the sad news and expressed profound condolences. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonousikou, the governor described Aminu as “a towering figure in Nigeria’s intellectual and political landscape.” He added that the loss was monumental, not just for Adamawa State but for the entire nation, which had benefited immensely from Aminu’s wisdom, scholarship, and decades of patriotic service.

Throughout his illustrious career, Aminu held several key positions, including Minister of Education, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, and Senator representing Adamawa Central. In every role, he demonstrated dignity, insight, and an unwavering commitment to the progress of Nigeria.

Governor Fintiri emphasized that “Nigeria has lost one of its finest minds, a devoted public servant and a distinguished son of Adamawa.” He described Aminu as “a rare breed of patriot and a silent reformer whose legacy spans education, diplomacy, and politics.” The governor prayed for God’s forgiveness of Aminu’s shortcomings and for eternal rest for his soul.

He extended heartfelt sympathies to the family, friends, and all Nigerians touched by Aminu’s extraordinary contributions. “Though his passing leaves a void, his legacy remains a guiding light for generations to come. May his soul find peace in the mercy of Allah,” Fintiri concluded.
