Former Super Eagles attacking midfielder, Emmanuel Ebiede, has passed away at the age of 45 from hepatomegaly complications.

The news was confirmed by his daughter, Lisa Ebiede, who spoke to newsmen on Friday night.

Ebiede, who played for SC Eendracht Aalst in Belgium, was admitted to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) but unfortunately did not respond to treatment.

According to Lisa, “The doctors tried everything and their possible best to increase his blood pressure but it was too low for them to remove the fluids in his stomach.”

Lisa also commended the River state government for their efforts in trying to save her father’s life.

“River state government really came through for him to try to keep him alive. They bought a lot of things and spent money too,” she said.

Ebiede was a part of the 1995 Flying Eagles squad that participated in the African Youth Championship (AYC) on home soil. He opened his Super Eagles account under Bora Milutunovic in the 1998 pre-World Cup qualifiers against Iran and went on to earn two additional caps for the senior national team.

The former Sharks FC player also played for SC Heerenveen in the Netherlands. He is survived by a wife and three kids.
