The Rivers State University has suspended four students linked to the brutalization of their colleague, Victor Tobins. The students, who are officials of the Man ‘O’ War security outfit, were suspended for one academic session for contravening university regulations.

According to a statement on Saturday morning by the university’s acting Registrar, Mrs. I.B.S. Harry, the students were found guilty of assaulting and inflicting physical injury on Tobins, a 300-level student of Sociology, on June 12, 2024.

The suspended students are Monsi Baridukaka Nwaaelibabari, Victor Chibuike Daniel, Ezems Ikechukwu Goodluck, and Wilson Jacob Ree-Ugani. The university management urged students to live in peace and harmony and comply with all rules and regulations.

The suspension comes after a protest by students demanding the disbandment of the Man ‘O’ War outfit from campus. The protest was sparked by the brutalization of Tobins, who was beaten and injured by the Man ‘O’ War officials over an undisclosed issue.

The university management intervened, and with the help of the police, restored calm to the campus. The Vice Chancellor assured the protesting students that action would be taken within 24 hours.
