Port Harcourt, NIGERIA – Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara joined the people of Opobo Kingdom on Saturday, April 11, 2026, to pay final respects to the Amanyanabo of Opobo, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Jeki V, who passed away at the age of 83.
Okay News reports that during the funeral service, Governor Fubara described the late monarch as a “revered leader” whose life was defined by dignity, calmness, and honor. The Governor noted that the King’s proactive reign was a period of significant political prominence for Opobo, during which the Kingdom produced several eminent citizens, including a Deputy Governor and the current Governor himself.
“We will forever remember him for his mien, composure, and fatherly leadership,” Fubara said in a statement. He urged the royal family and the people of Opobo to honor the King’s legacy by maintaining unity and a commitment to personal industry.
The transition of King Jaja marks the end of an era for one of Nigeria’s most historic traditional stools. The funeral was attended by several high-profile dignitaries and traditional rulers, all paying tribute to a monarch many described as a stabilizing force in the Niger Delta region.
