Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has commended the pace of work on the Trans-Kalabari Road project, confirming that about 75 percent of the critical piling work has been completed.

Fubara made this known on Monday after inspecting the 12.5-kilometre project, which is designed to link Port Harcourt with several Kalabari communities across the river.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, said the Governor toured the project route by boat from Rumuolumeni Jetty in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area through the creeks.

The Trans-Kalabari Road, awarded to Lubrik Construction Company Limited on May 15, 2024, has a 32-month completion timeline. Fubara said his visit was to verify progress reports submitted by the Ministry of Works.

He commended the contractors for their commitment, describing the current pace as “a reflection of hard work and dedication to excellence.”

According to him, the first phase of the project will extend to Bakana, featuring four major river-crossing bridges and five deck-on-pile structures.

“The terrain is tough and the engineering work complex. But to the glory of God, almost 75 percent of the piling job, which is the most critical part, has been achieved,” he said.

The Governor noted that the project is among the most challenging in the state due to its marine environment but reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to complete it within schedule.

He said the road would improve connectivity between the Kalabari Kingdom and Port Harcourt and boost economic activities across riverine areas.
