Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has paid a condolence visit to Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, following the sudden death of Bayelsa’s Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. The visit took place on Sunday at the Bayelsa State Government House in Yenagoa, days after the deputy governor passed away on December 11.
Governor Fubara arrived in Yenagoa dressed in black as a mark of respect and was received by Governor Diri before both leaders held a private meeting at the Government House. The Rivers governor said his visit was to personally identify with the Bayelsa government and people during what he described as a deeply painful period.
In his remarks, Fubara described Ewhrudjakpo’s death as a major loss not only to Bayelsa State but to the wider Niger Delta region. He praised the late deputy governor’s record in public service, noting that he was widely respected for his intellect, calm leadership style, and humility while in office.
The Rivers governor extended the condolences of the Rivers State Government and its people to Governor Diri, the Bayelsa State Government, and the family of the deceased, adding that the loss was being felt beyond state boundaries. Ewhrudjakpo, who served as Bayelsa’s deputy governor until his death, was regarded as a key pillar of the state’s administration.
