Renowned filmmaker and actress, Funke Akindele, has voiced her concerns about the growing “baddies” trend on social media, where females prominently display their physical appearance and luxurious lifestyles.

In a recent interview with Arise News, Akindele emphasized the need for content creators to promote messages that inspire and educate, rather than focusing solely on entertainment.

Akindele urged individuals to concentrate on building their brand and producing content that leaves a positive impact on their audience.

She highlighted the importance of authenticity and encouraged viewers to critically assess the content they consume, questioning the reality behind the glamorous portrayals often seen online.

“I enjoy watching beautiful content, but you have to watch what you churn out. You need to focus on your brand, what you’re selling, and what you want people to learn from you,” Akindele stated.

She continued, “If you’re an actor, a self-made person, what are you churning out? You must influence lives positively with the content you produce. And for those watching, are you watching to be entertained or to learn? ‘A’ is carrying a designer bag and showing you on video, but how sure are you that she’s not borrowing the bag? How sure are you she’s rich? Don’t believe everything on social media.”

Akindele expressed her worry about the so-called “baddies” who focus primarily on their looks without showcasing their intellectual and creative capabilities.

She urged them to highlight their talents and contribute meaningful content that resonates with their followers.

“I’m so worried about these so-called baddies. A baddie without showcasing what you have upstairs? We need to know what you are doing, and what positive content you are producing that people would be proud of. Yes, it’s good to showcase fashion. But what do you have upstairs to show us? Are you just a baddie for the mouth? Even if you are a dancer, what else do you have?” Akindele questioned.
