Ganduje’s Son Joins Kwankwaso’s NDC to Contest 2027 Reps Seat

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

KANO, Nigeria — AbdulAziz Umar, the son of former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has declared his intention to contest a House of Representatives seat under the New Democratic Coalition (NDC).

AbdulAziz picked up his nomination form to run for the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okay News reports that the move marks a major departure from his family’s long-standing alignment with the APC and signals his official entry into the political camp of former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In a video circulating on social media, AbdulAziz publicly confirmed his political ambitions and alignment with Kwankwaso’s expanding political network, discussing his recent engagements with the former governor.

The NDC is the newly adopted political platform of Kwankwaso following his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The party has been gaining momentum across Kano State, drawing in established political actors and grassroots structures alike.

Political analysts state that AbdulAziz’s entry into the race will significantly intensify competition within the constituency, setting up a high-stakes battle against whoever the APC fields in what is already a closely watched district.

The candidacy is widely viewed as a development that could redraw traditional political alliances in the state, further deepening the fierce rivalry between the Kwankwasiyya movement and the ruling APC structure in the buildup to 2027.
