MINNA, Nigeria – Nigerian content creator and relationship commentator Emmanuel Obruste, popularly known as GehGeh, has responded to questions about his marital status after footage from a traditional wedding circulated widely on social media.
The videos, posted on X over the weekend, showed GehGeh and a woman dressed in matching burgundy traditional attire. He wore an agbada with black beads, while other clips appeared to show the woman performing customary first-feeding rites during the ceremony.
Reports placed the event in Minna, the capital of Niger State, but the material shared online did not establish that GehGeh was the groom. An invitation card visible in the footage named “Mary and Prosper” as the couple and listed July 26 as the ceremony date.
Responding to the speculation, GehGeh wrote: “So I no fit represent my brother wey dey abroad?”
Okay News reports that the videos prompted criticism from some followers who said the ceremony appeared inconsistent with the content creator’s often controversial relationship advice to men.
GehGeh rejected claims that he had discouraged his audience from marrying. “I never for once told y’all not to get married. Did I? If yes show me a video of me telling you not to marry,” he wrote.
He later added: “Nigerians really don’t understand how social media works. If you know how to use it properly you will never lack.”
The content creator has built a large online audience through videos about relationships, personal finance and what he describes as economic guidance for men. His remarks about marriage and women regularly generate debate across Nigerian social-media platforms.
As of the time of publication, GehGeh had not issued a direct statement confirming that he married at the ceremony. The identity and role of the woman seen with him also had not been independently confirmed.
