The German Football Association (DFB) on Monday rejected claims of racism made by Mesut Ozil against its president Reinhard Grindel in an angry resignation letter.

Ozil, according to a statement on Sunday, says he no longer wants to play for Germany because of the ”treatment” he received from the German Football Association (DFB).

The 29-year-old claimed he was being blamed for Germany’s disappointing World Cup and he was racially abused and as such he had to stop playing for the side.

“We reject the notion that the DFB is associated with racism.

“The DFB stands for diversity, from the representatives at the top to the boundless, day-to-day dedication of people at the base,” read a statement.
