The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, will arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday for a three-day official visit, the German Embassy in Abuja has announced.

The visit, scheduled from Tuesday to Thursday, underscores Germany’s commitment to strengthening political, economic, and cultural ties with Nigeria.

During his stay in Abuja, Steinmeier is expected to meet with prominent Nigerian leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alieu Touray, the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission. Discussions will likely focus on fostering bilateral relations and addressing regional issues.

The German President will also travel to Lagos, where his itinerary includes engagements with business representatives, a visit to a start-up hub, and meetings with notable figures in Nigeria’s cultural and civil society sectors, such as Dr. Nike Okundaye and Prof. Wole Soyinka.

“There will also be an opportunity to tour the city of Lagos and gain insights into the urban development of a megacity, including environmental and social challenges,” the German Embassy said in a statement.

Steinmeier will be accompanied by a delegation of top executives and board members from some of Germany’s leading companies in IT, high-tech, and energy sectors. Their participation highlights the growing interest of German businesses in investing in Nigeria.

“This visit sends a strong signal: Nigeria is an important political, economic, and cultural partner of Germany in Africa,” the statement added.
