Ghanaian Lawyer Dies Celebrating World Cup Victory

ACCRA, Ghana: A 26-year-old Ghanaian lawyer, Sarah Araba Tettey, died on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, after collapsing during celebrations following Ghana‘s victory over Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Okay News reports that the Ghanaian news outlet, Citi Newsroom, said the incident occurred at Standard Hostel, a private facility in Bomso near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

The lawyer, an alumna of the university’s Faculty of Law, was watching the football match with friends when she collapsed during the post-match celebrations. Medical personnel attempted to revive her at a hospital before she was pronounced dead.

Tettey was called to the Ghana Bar earlier in 2026 and was practicing at O & A Legal Consult. Her family has not issued an official statement regarding the circumstances of her death.

The exact cause of death remains unconfirmed by medical authorities, and her body is currently held at a mortuary pending further arrangement.
