The Gombe State Government has approved the sum of ₦1.3 billion for the construction of a new Deputy Governor’s Office complex and ₦1.2 billion for a modern fire service headquarters, as part of its infrastructure expansion drive.

The approval was made during the 50th State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held on Monday and chaired by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya at the Gombe Arena. Commissioner for Works and Transport, Usman Kallamu, said the new Deputy Governor’s Office would be located close to the Government House to improve administrative coordination.

He explained that “as of now, the Deputy Governor’s Office is far away from the Government House. The council has approved ₦1,337,885,743.75 for the construction of a new Deputy Governor’s Office to be sited adjacent to the Government House, at the Old Gombe Jewel Suites.”

Okay News reports that the council also endorsed ₦1.3 billion for the completion of five mega colleges across different local government areas in the state. These projects are aimed at expanding access to quality education and improving infrastructure in the state’s learning institutions.

To strengthen emergency response and disaster management, the council approved an additional ₦1,275,236,520 for the construction of a modern, fully equipped Gombe State Fire Service Headquarters. Kallamu said the new facility would provide a permanent and functional base for fire service operations, replacing temporary structures currently in use.

“The establishment of a befitting Fire Service Headquarters will enhance emergency response, safeguard lives and property, and boost overall urban safety,” Kallamu noted.

In a similar move, the government approved ₦461.8 million for a new Divisional Police Station in Shehu Abubakar District. The project has been redesigned with modern facilities in line with Gombe State’s urban development plan.

In recent years, Gombe State has shifted towards participatory and program-based budgeting, enabling better resource allocation for infrastructure. The 2024 state budget of ₦208.064 billion allocated 58 percent to capital projects and 42 percent to recurrent expenditure, emphasizing the administration’s focus on development and consolidation.
