Global tech giant Google and the World Bank Group have announced a strategic alliance aimed at accelerating digital transformation across emerging markets through the deployment of Open Network Stacks, a framework designed to serve as a digital backbone for essential public services.

The collaboration, unveiled today, will combine Google Cloud’s advanced AI technologies, including its Gemini models, with the World Bank Group’s deep development expertise to help governments rapidly build interoperable digital networks in critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and skill development.

Through these open systems, citizens will be able to access AI-powered government and social services in over 40 languages, even on basic mobile devices, bridging gaps in accessibility and inclusion.

The initiative builds upon a successful pro bono pilot in Uttar Pradesh, India, where thousands of smallholder farmers used digital platforms to improve profitability and gain market insights. The pilot demonstrated how AI-driven open infrastructure can empower local economies and strengthen public service delivery.

To ensure long-term sustainability and inclusivity, Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, is funding the creation of a new nonprofit organisation, Networks for Humanity (NFH).

The body will work to advance universal digital infrastructure, including Beckn open network protocols and Finternet asset tokenization frameworks, while also establishing regional innovation labs and launching global pilots for social impact applications.
