Malumfashi, Katsina, NIGERIA — Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has officially flagged off the 2026 Fertiliser Sales and Distribution Programme as part of a strategic push to transform the agricultural sector in Katsina State.

The ceremony, held in Malumfashi on Monday, April 20, 2026, marks the beginning of a state-wide effort to enhance food security and rural livelihoods.

To ensure equitable access and eliminate the influence of middlemen, the Governor announced that the fertiliser would be distributed directly across all 6,652 polling units in the state.

Okay News reports that the commodity has been heavily subsidized, with a bag priced at ₦25,000 to make it affordable for genuine smallholder farmers during the current planting season.

Governor Radda emphasized that the administration’s intervention goes beyond soil nutrients. The state is currently training over 361 young men and women in modern farming techniques, agro-processing, and agribusiness. This youth empowerment initiative is designed to professionalize the sector and provide a sustainable career path for the next generation of Katsina farmers.

To support all-season farming, the Katsina State Government has also deployed:

Mechanization: Provision of tractors and hand-powered tillers.
Irrigation Support: Distribution of irrigation pumps and the drilling of thousands of tube wells.
Input Quality: Distribution of improved seedlings to boost crop yields per hectare.

The Governor reiterated that agriculture remains the backbone of the state’s economy and is intrinsically linked to lasting security. By strengthening rural livelihoods and creating jobs through the agricultural value chain, he added that the administration aims to build more stable and prosperous communities across the state’s 34 Local Government Areas.
