Gov. Shettima Nominates New Borno Dep. Governor Following Death Of Zannah Umar.

Governor Kashim Shettima has nominated the immediate past commissioner, Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Youths Empowerment, Alhaji Usman Mamman Durkwa for the position of Deputy Governor of Borno State.

The nomination follows the death of Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha in the early hours of Saturday,15th of August, 2015 in Yola, capital of Adamawa while he was on official assignment.

Spokesman to the Governor, Malam Isa Gusau confirmed that Shettima has in a letter, dated Monday, October 5, 2015 and addressed to the speaker, Borno State House of Assembly, forwarded the name of Durkwa seeking the approval of the Assembly.

Gusau added that Shettima acted in accordance with the powers conferred on him by Section 191 Sub-Section (3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended).

“I have the honour to convey vide this letter the name of Hon. Usman Mamman Durkwa for confirmation as Deputy Governor of Borno State following the demise of Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha on 15th August, 2015.

“I wish to reassure the Honourable House of the continuous cooperation of the Executive arm and solicit for confirmation of the nominee, please. Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration” Shettima said in his letter as quoted by his spokesman.

Given the very respectful and cordial working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of Government in Borno State, Governor Shettima looks forward to the Assembly’s accelerated consideration and kind approval, Gusau noted.
