Yola, Adamawa State, NIGERIA — Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Adamawa North Senatorial seat. Making the announcement on Saturday, the Governor stated that he has “heeded the clarion call” of his people to represent the zone in the 11th National Assembly.
The declaration followed a consultative meeting with key stakeholders, including Senator Amos Yahaya and local leaders from the five Local Government Areas (LGAs) that comprise the district: Madagali, Michika, Mubi North, Mubi South, and Maiha.
Okay News reports that Fintiri’s move is one of the outgoing second-term governors’ transitioning into the Senate to maintain their political influence and provide “sustained development” for their constituencies.
Known for his “Fresh Air” administrative philosophy, Governor Fintiri emphasized that his resolve is fueled by the confidence shown by his stakeholders. His campaign is expected to leverage his executive record—specifically his focus on infrastructure and the restoration of “lasting peace” in areas previously affected by insurgency.
