IJEBU-ODE, Ogun State, Nigeria — Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has been adopted as the consensus candidate for the Ogun East Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections by leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the zone.

The endorsement took place on Monday, April 20, 2026, at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode, bringing together the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), all 103 councillors from the district’s nine local governments, and state and national legislators.

Okay News reports that former Senator Lekan Mustapha, who spoke on behalf of the stakeholders, cited Abiodun’s “strong character and sound intellect” as the basis for the decision.

Mustapha announced that party leaders have pledged to purchase the governor’s nomination forms once they become available.

The Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, described the endorsement as “historic” and said Abiodun’s performance in governance made him the most deserving candidate to represent the zone at the National Assembly. Hon. Femi Ogunbanwo said he was confident the governor would attract more “dividends of democracy” to Ogun East from the federal level.

The meeting was also attended by former Senator Gbenga Kaka, Ogun East APC Chairman Adedoyin Adeleke, House of Representatives members Adesola Elegbeji and Joseph Adegbesan, and Sagamu Local Government Chairman Hon. Afolabi Odulate.

Governor Abiodun’s second term as governor expires in May 2027. He has not yet formally responded to the endorsement.
