Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, has condoled with the families of victims of the Damaturu blasts which claimed six lives.

A statement from the Governor’s Director of Press, Abdullahi Bego, said that “Governor Gaidam is heartbroken as he mourns with the families of victims of the callous, senseless and condemnable attacks”.

The Governor has also directed that injured victims be given quick and free treatment at the Sani Abatcha Specialist Hospital, Damaturu, where they have been taken for medical care.

The statement also urges Yobe State residents to continue to be vigilant, prayerful and to support security agencies in their effort to rid the state of the deadly violence.

Meanwhile the Medical Director of the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital, Dr Garba Adamu Fika, has confirmed that six victims including two suicide bombers, were killed in the blast.

The Spokesman for the Police in the State, Toyin Gbadegesin, explained that the first explosion, carried out by a female suicide bomber, occurred at about 7:30am. The suicide bomber detonated the explosive device close to a vehicle at the Central Motor Park, killing five persons and herself.

The second explosion was detonated by a male suicide bomber, who was attempting to take a commercial vehicle when the explosion went off, killing just the suicide bomber.

Tuesday’s attack came barely a month after the deadly blast in a market in Damaturu the state capital, which killed 19 people and injured 47 others on July 26th.
