Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appealed for public calm following a fire that engulfed a prominent 25-story office tower in the city’s commercial district.

The blaze at the Great Nigeria Insurance (GNI) Building on Martins Street, Lagos Island, prompted a large-scale emergency response on Wednesday.

Governor Sanwo-Olu visited the scene to assess the damage and the ongoing firefighting operations firsthand. He assured residents that emergency services were actively managing the situation. Officials have reported a critical piece of positive news: there have been no confirmed fatalities as a result of the incident.

The cause of the fire, which caused extensive damage to the high-rise structure, remains unknown at this time. Investigations are expected to commence once the fire is fully extinguished and the site is deemed safe.
