Govt Orders Evacuation as Flood Inflicts Destruction in Ondo

The Ondo State Government has ordered evacuation from areas affected by severe flooding in Ondo town, Okay.ng reports.

The flood, which occurred after heavy rainfall on Friday, caused extensive damage to properties in several parts of the town, including Itanla, Oka, Odo Ijomu, Bethlehem, and the Akure-Ondo Expressway.

Many houses and vehicles were submerged, forcing residents to leave their homes. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.

In response to the situation, the state government has initiated evacuation efforts and rapid response measures to prevent further damage.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Oyeniyi Oseni, stated that necessary steps are being taken to prevent future flooding, including the deployment of Amphibious Excavators to critical erosion-prone areas for dredging.

The government also aims to address unlawful developments along the waterways, which have been identified as a contributing factor to the recent flooding.
