Mason Greenwood scored twice on his debut for Marseille, leading the team to a 5-1 victory over Brest in their opening Ligue 1 match. Greenwood’s goals, including a penalty, were complemented by two from Luis Henrique and one from Elye Wahi.

Greenwood’s impressive performance came despite controversy surrounding his signing due to past allegations. The 22-year-old former Manchester United forward was suspended in January 2022 but had charges dropped in February 2023.

Marseille’s new coach, Roberto De Zerbi, praised the team’s attitude and result but remained cautious about their potential. The win marked a strong start for De Zerbi’s new-look side, which included four other debutants.

Brest, who finished third last season, struggled with key players missing and faces a challenging start to the season. Coach Eric Roy acknowledged the need for reassessment to achieve a good result in their next match.
