KEBBI, Nigeria: Unidentified armed men abducted Kebbi State High Court judge Justice Faruku Bunza from his residence in the Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State before dawn on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident, and Okay News reports that Commissioner of Police CP Umar Hadejia deployed tactical and intelligence operatives to rescue the judge. Police Public Relations Officer SP Bashir Usman stated that security operatives have launched a coordinated manhunt, combing suspected hideouts and surrounding forest areas.
“I can confirm that Hon. Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza was abducted from his residence in Bunza around midnight. Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police immediately deployed tactical and intelligence operatives to ensure his safe rescue,” Usman said.
A family member said the armed men invaded the property along Zogirma Road shortly after the judge returned home from Sokoto State. The attackers abducted the judge without causing physical harm to other occupants or neighbours.
“Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza had just returned from Sokoto. Shortly after he arrived at his residence around midnight, armed men invaded the house and abducted him. They were shouting during the operation, attracting the attention of people around, but they left with him before anyone could intervene,” the family source said.
A senior official of the court management said consultations with security agencies have begun to coordinate release efforts. No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction as of the time of filing this report.
