An unconfirmed number of worshippers have been abducted after armed bandits attacked a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) at Oke Isegun in the Eruku community, a border town between Kogi and Kwara states in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara.
Okay News reports that the assailants invaded the church during a live-streamed service on Sunday, leaving several members dead and others missing.
A video from the livestream, reviewed by Okay News, captured the moment the congregation , led by a young pastor, came under heavy gunfire from around the church premises. Worshippers were seen panicking and attempting to flee as gunshots intensified.
Moments later, more than five armed men forced their way into the building, ransacked the sanctuary, and seized personal belongings.
Local sources said three worshippers were killed in the attack, while the pastor and an unspecified number of congregants were taken away by the attackers. The exact number of abducted persons had not been confirmed at the time of filing this report.
It occurred less than 48 hours after bandits raided Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, abducting 25 schoolgirls in a pre-dawn operation that drew national outrage.
