Gunners celebrate Gyökeres' penalty goal

Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League table after edging Everton 1–0 m at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Viktor Gyökeres’ first-half penalty proving decisive. The win ensured Mikel Arteta’s side reclaimed first place ahead of the festive break, marking a positive milestone as the manager celebrated six years in charge.

After a cautious opening spell, Arsenal gradually asserted control and were rewarded midway through the first half when Everton defender Jake O’Brien was penalised for handling the ball inside the area from a corner. Gyökeres stepped up confidently and drove his spot-kick past Jordan Pickford to score his seventh goal for the club. Arsenal continued to dominate possession, creating further openings before the break, though they were unable to extend their lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Arsenal pressing for a cushion and Everton attempting to stay in the contest. Leandro Trossard and Martin Zubimendi both came close to scoring, each rattling the post as the visitors threatened to pull clear. Everton had moments of promise on the counter, but strong defensive work and a largely quiet evening for goalkeeper David Raya ensured Arsenal remained in control.

Despite late pressure and added-time nerves, Arsenal saw out the match to secure all three points. The victory not only keeps them at the summit of the league on Christmas Day but also maintains momentum ahead of upcoming fixtures, including a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash and further league tests before the end of the year.
