Hamas has officially confirmed the deaths of key figures in its military wing, including long-time al-Qassam Brigades spokesperson Abu Obeida and former Gaza leader Mohammed Sinwar.

The announcement was made in a video statement on Monday, marking the first time the group publicly verified Abu Obeida’s death and revealed his real identity as Hudhayfah Samir Abdullah al-Kahlout. A new masked spokesperson has been appointed to inherit his role.

The al-Qassam Brigades also confirmed the deaths of other senior commanders, including Mohammed Shabanah, Hakam al-Issi, and Raed Saad, all of whom were reportedly killed during ongoing hostilities with Israel.

Abu Obeida had been a key voice during the two-year Gaza war, issuing updates on ceasefire violations and prisoner exchanges. Hamas stated that despite these losses, it remains committed to the ceasefire while rejecting calls to disarm.

Since the October 2023 conflict began, the Palestinian health ministry reports that over 71,000 people have died and more than 171,000 have been injured. The new Hamas spokesperson called on the international community to pressure Israel to adhere to the ceasefire and warned that the group will continue defending itself.
