Harry Maguire to Remain at Man United as Transfer to West Ham Fails

Harry Maguire’s transfer from Manchester United to West Ham is now off.

West Ham had agreed a £30 million fee to sign the England international centre-back, before entering into talks over personal terms.

One main issue surrounded the difference in salary that Maguire would earn at the London Stadium compared his current wage at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old had been in talks with United over a potential pay-off, according to reports, that would allow him to join West Ham and end his four-year stay at the club.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano claimed on The United Stand that United would not let Maguire leave until they had entered into advanced talks with a replacement.

However, they will now not be selling Maguire at all – at least for the time being.

According to The Guardian, West Ham have now pulled out of the deal due to ‘growing tired of waiting’ for the defender to conclude talks with United.

It is reported that, from West Ham’s side, personal terms had been agreed with Maguire – leaving only United’s side of the transfer to be finalised.

As a result, the report claims that the Hammers could return to the negotiating table at a later date, but the deal is off for now due to the dispute.

It has been alleged that the 30-year-old wanted around £7 million to depart Old Trafford, which would likely have represented some of the difference between his salary at United and West Ham across the length of his contract.

While Maguire remains at the club, however, a search for his replacement could potentially be halted.

United have been linked with moves for Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmund Tapsoba. They have already completed three incoming transfers this summer.

Fabrizio Romano identifies two hurdles that could prevent Harry Maguire’s West Ham move
Fabrizio Romano has revealed two hurdles which could prevent Harry Maguire from joining West Ham.

On Wednesday morning it was reported by multiple outlets that West Ham have reached an agreement worth £30million to sign Manchester United defender Maguire.

The Hammers are seeking reinforcements, having sold Declan Rice for £105million earlier in the window, while Maguire will be hoping to revive his career after a challenging year under Erik ten Hag.

Maguire made just 16 Premier League appearances, including eight starts, last season with Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and left-back Luke Shaw ahead of him in the pecking order.

Furthermore, the United defender was relieved of his duties as captain last month and replaced by Bruno Fernandes.

While a move to West Ham looks likely transfer guru Romano has noted two potential hurdles which could prevent Maguire’s transfer from being finalised.

Romano on Maguire move

Romano tweeted to corroborate news that United had reached an agreement with West Ham for Maguire.

However, the Italian added that Maguire still needed to “verbally” agree to the move, while the structure of the deal was still yet to be finalised.

Romano wrote: “West Ham have reached an agreement in principle with Manchester United for Harry Maguire on £30m fee.

“The verbal agreement is subject to final, key points on deal structure still under discussion but fee now agreed, as per Sky.

ADVERT
“Personal terms, to be discussed soon.”

Sky Sports have claimed personal terms are not expected to be a problem but there is still work to do on the details of the England international’s exit from United.

The Hammers however are “cautiously optimistic” about completing the signing having also had a £20million bid for the England international rejected last month.

Reports in France had claimed that United hope to sign Nice centre-back Todibo as a Maguire replacement.
