‘He Is 16, Not 30’ — APC Reps Aspirant Withdraws from Race After Backlash

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

ZARIA, Nigeria – Mahmud Sadis Buba, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant popularly known as Al-ajabin Zazzau, has officially withdrawn from the race to represent Sabon Gari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Okay News reports that Buba’s withdrawal comes amid the ongoing APC nationwide primary elections. The aspirant, who recently faced intense social media scrutiny regarding his actual age, announced his exit in a formal letter addressed to the APC Chairman in Kaduna State, which was published on his verified Facebook page on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

“Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am withdrawing from the race for Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, House of Representatives, effective immediately,” Buba wrote. “This was not an easy decision. But it was hastened by the reconciliation efforts initiated by stakeholders and leaders of our party. Consequently, after extensive consultations with my family, political associates, and stakeholders within our great party, I have decided that this decision is in the best interest of the All Progressives Congress (APC). I believe that uniting behind a single candidate is paramount to our victory in the general election and for the continued progress of our constituency and state.”

Buba’s campaign had been hit by significant controversy after critics circulated the data page of his international passport online, claiming he is actually 16 years old rather than his declared age of 30, triggering debates over his constitutional eligibility to contest. Despite the viral backlash, Buba expressed deep appreciation to Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State and the APC leadership for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process, stating that the experience has “enriched” him.

Reaffirming his absolute loyalty to the party, Buba maintained that his stepping down was a sacrifice for the greater good of the party rather than a sign of weakness. He urged his supporters to remain calm, stay united, and provide maximum support to whoever emerges as the party’s consensus candidate to ensure a seamless victory for the APC in the general election.
