Sophia Momodu, the first babymama of Nigerian superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has filed a counter-affidavit in the High Court of Lagos over the custody of their daughter, Imade Adeleke. This legal development comes after Davido, who recently married Chioma, initiated a lawsuit for joint custody of Imade.

The case, marked LD/1587PMC/2024 and dated April 17, 2024, lists Mr. David Adedeji Adeleke as the applicant and Ms. Sophia Momodu as the sole respondent. Davido’s suit seeks an order for joint custody of Imade and unrestricted access to his daughter. The singer asserts that despite his relationship with Momodu ending years ago, he has continued to provide for Imade’s well-being.

However, Momodu, through her legal representatives, refuted these claims, stating that Davido has chosen not to see their daughter since July 2022. She contends that she has solely shouldered the responsibility for Imade’s care over the past two years, while Davido falsely portrays himself on social media as a supportive and active father.

In her counter-lawsuit, Momodu alleges that Davido used their daughter to maintain a sexual relationship with her, withdrawing fatherly duties and financial support whenever she attempted to end their liaison. She accuses Davido of being an absentee father who prioritizes his career and lifestyle over Imade’s well-being, citing a two-year period of alleged abandonment.

Momodu’s affidavit also includes a startling claim that Davido’s family attempted to kidnap Imade when she was three months old, with plans to take her out of the country without Momodu’s consent.

Furthermore, Momodu labels Davido as a “world-acclaimed womaniser,” asserting that his home environment is unsafe for a young girl. She referenced the tragic death of Davido’s son in 2022 as evidence to support her claim.

She also expressed frustration over being left to cover most of Imade’s expenses, including school fees and accommodation costs, despite previous agreements with Davido. Momodu criticized Davido for using the court case as a publicity stunt, publishing details in a national newspaper, which she argues has exposed Imade to danger and unwarranted public attention.
