The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed how a former governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema, allegedly received N700 million from the N23.3 billion campaign funds linked to former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The spokesman of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, said yesterday that Shema allegedly authorised a former Minister of Mines and Steel, Musa Muhammad Sada, to receive the money on his behalf for the state.

Sada is one of the former ministers currently being investigated in connection with the $115 million (N23.3 billion) allegedly shared through Fidelity Bank by Alison-Madueke.

Other former ministers so far indicted in this scam include former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bashir Aminu Wali, former Ministers of State for Foreign Affairs I and II, Mrs. Victoria Onwuliri and Dr. Nurudeen Muhammad.

Former governor of Kano State, who is also a former Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, has been invited by the EFCC but is yet to appear.

He had reportedly admitted that Wali shared the money in his house but he was not present during the sharing and did not see the cash.

The N700 million allegedly got by Shema is likely to be part of the N5 billion allegedly got by the north-west from the campaign funds connected to Alison-Madueke.

“During investigation, Sada disclosed that he was authorised by Shema to collect N700 million on behalf of Katsina State and remit it with a former commissioner for finance for keep for him (Shema),” Uwujaren said.

According to him, a former Minister of State for Agriculture, Asabe Asmau Ahmed, from Niger State, also revealed how she personally signed and collected N450 million.

“Ahmed also stated that she kept the sum of N105 million for herself,” Uwujaren said.
