‘I Did Not Endorse Any Presidential Candidate’ – Kanu Nwankwo

By Yusuf Abubakar

Nwankwo Kanu, a former Super Eagles forward, has denied endorsing any candidate for the upcoming presidential elections in Nigeria.

The former footballer took to social media to clear the air, stating that claims of his endorsement are “fake, wicked news.”

Recently, an old video of Kanu praising Bola Tinubu, a presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), went viral.

In the video, which was recorded during a visit to commemorate Tinubu’s 70th birthday, Kanu mentioned that Tinubu was one of the first donors to his foundation when it started.

Supporters of Tinubu interpreted this as an endorsement from the former Arsenal FC player.

However, in a statement released on Friday, Kanu clarified that he is not a politician and that his life is all about football.

He said, “I have said it and I will say it again. I am not a politician but a footballer. Whoever is spreading fake news that I asked you to vote for somebody,” He also warned anyone spreading the false information to “stop spreading fake, wicked news against Papilo.”

Kanu also urged Nigerians to get their PVCs and to “vote for the best” to “make Nigeria better.”

He called for the public to focus on the important issues of the upcoming election and to make sure that they are registered to vote.
