Veteran Nollywood actor, Tony Umez disclosed that despite being an Igbo man, he does not speak nor understand the Igbo language.
According to the actor, this is the main reason why has not featured in any igbo movie since he started acting.
In his words, “I don’t speak nor understand Igbo. It’s a long story which I wouldn’t want to talk about now. It’s sad but there is nothing I can do about it. In fact, the little I understand is as a result of my wife. My wife is from Okija.”
Explaining further, Tony disclosed that he speaks more of English, Yoruba and Efik owing to the fact that his mother is from Cross River state and he grew up in Lagos.
Tony Umez hails from Ogidi in Anambra State. Until his recent disappearance from the screen, Tony has featured in over 200 Nollywood films of both English and Yoruba languages since his debut in the 1994.
