ABUJA, Nigeria — Former President Goodluck Jonathan has distanced himself from a fraudulent Instagram account impersonating him online, warning Nigerians not to engage with or rely on information shared through the platform.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan clarified that he does not operate any Instagram account and said the profile in question has been falsely presenting itself as his official social media page.
Okay News reports that some of the content posted on the fake account was allegedly copied from Jonathan’s verified Facebook page in an attempt to appear authentic and mislead members of the public.
The former president urged Nigerians, media organisations, and online users to disregard any messages, statements, or posts originating from the impersonating account, stressing that it does not represent him in any way.
Jonathan also advised the public to avoid sharing content from the account and remain vigilant against online impersonation and misinformation, noting that fraudsters often use such platforms to deceive unsuspecting individuals.
