Bishop Funke Felix-Adejumo, co-founder of Agape Christian Ministries, has called on African women to openly embrace their sexuality, challenging longstanding cultural beliefs that discourage discussions about intimacy within marriage, Okay.ng reports.
In a candid video shared on Instagram on Tuesday, the popular clergywoman spoke passionately about the need for women to shed societal inhibitions and foster deeper connections with their spouses.
“I like sex. If I don’t, how will I have children? And you are just pretending, you like sex,” she said, addressing the stigmas that surround female sexuality in African societies.
Felix-Adejumo criticised traditional norms that portray women who enjoy or express sexual desire as immoral, saying such beliefs hinder healthy marital relationships. “African culture has told you that a woman should not show that she enjoys sex, otherwise they will call her a prostitute,” she said.
She advised women to challenge these mindsets and take ownership of their desires. “Tell yourself, sex is good. I want my husband,” she declared. “And when you’re having sex with your husband, don’t pretend and just be like missionary. Talk, moan, sex is good.”
Bishop Felix-Adejumo emphasized that mutual pleasure, open communication, and emotional vulnerability are essential ingredients for a strong, lasting marriage.
“When the man is touching you, you’re happy. So, the first thing is to disbelieve that in your mind, otherwise, you’ll be causing problems in your marriage,” she said.
She also encouraged women to be supportive and reassuring toward their partners. “Tickle your husband, touch him when he’s making love to you. When he finishes, tell him he did a good job,” she added.
Felix-Adejumo warned that suppressing natural desires under the guise of cultural expectations can weaken a marriage. “You cannot believe that African mentality. Let’s change it. The devil is using it to destroy marriages because that’s the highest level of intimacy,” she concluded.
