Guinean attacker Mathias Pogba has revealed that he encouraged his younger brother Paul Pogba to quit Manchester United in favour of Juventus back in 2012.

Mathias, a striker for Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam and the twin brother of Florentin Pogba, said that at the time he believed Paul Pogba’s career would be best served by leaving Old Trafford.

“I told him at the time, he had to leave United for the sake of his career. You can ask him if you see him,” Mathias told De Telegraaf.

“I said to Paul that for someone with his qualities he could not accept being loaned, as with other talents, including Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley, happened.

“Later I said to him: ‘you must go. Manchester will try to hold you, but when you do your thing on the field, wherever you go, they will love you’.

“He left and look what has become of him.”

Paul Pogba re-joined Manchester United for a world-record transfer fee at the start of the current 2016/17 season.
