Abakaliki, Nigeria – The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced monitoring over 25 federal government projects valued at N2.2 billion across Ebonyi State, targeting proper completion and utilisation of public funds.

Okay News reports that the initiative covers capital projects spread across the state’s 13 local government areas. The tracking team has so far visited sites in Ebonyi, Ohaukwu, Ezza North, and Ishielu LGAs. At the Ebonyi State College of Health, the team inspected a new laboratory funded by the lawmaker representing Ebonyi-Ohaukwu Federal Constituency and executed by the Centre for Management Development.

The exercise also reviewed streetlight projects facilitated by Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi in the Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone. Other projects tracked included empowerment initiatives and streetlight installations across various local governments in Ebonyi Central by Senator Ken Eze, as well as feeder roads in farm settlements in Ezza South LGA.

According to the commission, the project tracking exercise aims to ensure proper completion and utilisation of appropriated projects. Where discrepancies or infractions are identified, the ICPC may recommend that contractors return to site or recover funds paid for incomplete or mismanaged contracts. The monitoring team comprises representatives from the ICPC, the Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors, civil society organisations, and media personnel.
